The suspect was described as a dark skinned black male, 6’ tall with unknown clothing. Investigators are seeking the public’s assistance with identifying the suspect(s) responsible for this shooting.
Burglary of Circle K in Champaign

The suspect is described as a white male with a red sweatshirt, blue jeans and a white mask covering his face.

Forgery and Burglary to Motor Vehicles

Over the last couple weeks, vehicles have been broken into in Champaign and surrounding areas of Illinois and Indiana. Some of the same suspects have been identified in more than one burglary where checks are being stolen and cashed, then used to purchase gift cards at retail businesses.
The suspects are described as two black males and two white females, all between 20-30 years of age. Suspect #1 is a black male, thin build, seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with a white heart on the front and gray shorts with a zebra type stripe down the side. Suspect #2 is a black male, slightly heavier with short black hair, seen wearing a gray/black jacket, white t-shirt, and blue pants with two stripes down the side. Suspect #3 is a white female with dark hair, heavyset, seen wearing a black sweater and a black and white skirt or dress. Suspect #4 is a white female with long dark hair, seen wearing a mauve long-sleeved shirt and jeans.

Retail Theft

STATUS: ARRESTEDSUBJECT HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AND ARRESTED
On July 4, 2017 at approximately 11:00 p.m., Champaign Police responded to a business in the 2400 block of N Prospect for a reported shoplifting. A male had attempted to steal almost $1000 worth of merchandise but was stopped outside the store by security. The male fled on foot and was not located.
The suspect is described as a white male, 20-30 years of age, 5’7 to 5’9” tall with a skinny build. He has blonde hair, a goatee, and was last seen wearing a white shirt and dark shorts.

Sexually Assault at Kaufman Lake

On June 27, 2017 at approximately 5:25 p.m., Champaign Police responded to Kaufman Lake, located at 2702 West Springfield, after receiving a report that an assault had just occurred. The on-scene investigation revealed a female victim had been physically and sexually assaulted by an unknown assailant just off the walking path.
The suspect is described as a black male in his 20’s, 5’8 to 5’9” with a thin build and medium brown complexion. The suspect was last seen wearing a black shirt and a pair of green lens sunglasses, as seen in the attached composite photo.

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers and the University of Illinois Police Department are seeking assistance from the public regarding a missing person.
Yingying Zhang, a visiting scholar to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, was last seen on Friday, June 9, 2017, in Urbana, Illinois. Security cameras captured her getting into a car at the corner of West Clark Street and North Goodwin Avenue around 2:04 p.m. that day.
Zhang is a 26 year old Asian female, 5’4”, 110 lbs. with black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a charcoal-colored baseball hat, a pink-and-white top, jeans, and white tennis shoes. She carried a black backpack. The suspect`s vehicle is described as a black Saturn Astra four-door hatchback. It appeared to be driven by a white male who circled the area prior to making contact with Zhang.

Multiple Reports of Gunfire in the 500 Block of East Eureka

On June 2, 2017 at approximately 6:14 PM, Champaign Police Officers responded to the 500 Block of E. Eureka St., after receiving multiple reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, police located a 24-year-old male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital, but died a short time later that same evening.
Champaign Police Detectives have continued investigation into this incident and developed information that led to the issuance of an arrest warrant. On June 5, a warrant for First Degree Murder was issued for Marquis T. Burnett, a 21-year-old male from Champaign. Bond on the warrant was set at $1,000,000.
On June 7, at approximately 5:23 PM, officers from the multi-jurisdictional Champaign County Street Crimes Task Force located Burnett in a vehicle near the 2100 block of N. Lincoln Ave. in Urbana. The vehicle was stopped and Burnett was taken into custody without incident.
Discharge of Fire Arm at Market Place Mall in Champaign
June 05, 2017
On May 29, 2017 at 9:06 p.m., the Champaign Police Department responded to Market Place Mall located at 2000 N Neil Street for the report of a gunshot being fired. Witnesses advised 12-15 subjects were gathered in the mall when an argument ensued. One victim received a head injury as a result of the confrontation, but fled the scene after a single gunshot was fired.
All involved subjects were described as black males and black females, late teens to mid-20s. The victim was described as a skinny black male with short hair. The suspects involved in the shooting were described as a slim black male, early 20s, average height with very short dreads. A second suspect was described as a black male, 6’ tall with a thicker build and short hair. Subjects were seen leaving the area in a black Chevy Impala and an older gold Pontiac.
Report of a Shoplifter at Circle K in Champaign

On May 21, 2017 at 1:17 a.m., Champaign Officers were dispatched to the Circle K at 1511 N Prospect in Champaign for the report of a shoplifter. A white male stole beer and then left in a tan Pontiac Grand Am with Illinois plate Q424878, which was found to have been stolen out of Bloomington, Illinois.
The suspect was described as a white male in his 50’s with gray hair, and was last seen wearing an orange shirt and blue jeans. There was a white female in the passenger seat of the stolen vehicle but there is no further description on her.

Report of a Shooting in the 900 Block of North Third Street in Champaign

On May 16, 2017 at 10:21 p.m., Champaign Officers were dispatched to the 900-block of N. Third Street for the report of a shooting. Several shots had been fired but luckily no individuals had been hit. During the incident two homes and numerous vehicles were damaged by bullets. A large group of people left the scene running southwest through the park
Burglaries to Motor Vehicles and Credit Card Frauds
May 15, 2017
On May 3-4 and May 8-9, 2017 two black males entered several unlocked vehicles and stole wallets, U.S. currency, and jewelry. Shortly after the burglaries the males used the stolen credit cards and made numerous purchases at local retail establishments totaling over $1500.
The suspects are both described as black males, thin, in their late teens to early 20s. The suspects were wearing ball caps and black or dark hooded sweatshirts and dark shoes. The males were wearing black or dark pants during some transactions and khaki or beige pants during other transactions.
