COUNTERFEIT PAIN PILLS
November 16, 2022

STATUS: OPEN

COUNTERFEIT PAIN PILLS

Drug overdoses are on the rise in the Freeport area and many of them have been linked to counterfeit pain pills containing fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opioid that is similar to morphine but is 50 to 100 times more potent.  In fact, it only takes 2 milligrams of fentanyl, about the weight of a few grains of salt, to put someone into a fatal overdose.  Counterfeit pills have become so common that anyone who is buying pills on the street should assume those pills contain fentanyl.  These pills are sometimes referred to on the street as “blues” or “Perc 30s”.

The majority of the counterfeit pain pills currently being sold in the Freeport area are small round blue tablets stamped on one side with the letter “M” inside of a square and the number “30” on the opposite side.  These pills closely resemble the color and markings found on pharmaceutical grade 30mg oxycodone and are manufactured in clandestine labs located outside of the United States.  Detection of these dangerous counterfeit pain pills is difficult because their appearance is substantially similar to pharmaceutical grade pills.

If you have any information about anyone selling counterfeit pain pills or any other illegal drugs, please contact your local law enforcement agency or Stateline Area Crime Stoppers.  Tips can be submitted to Stateline Area Crime Stoppers by phone to: 1-866-TIPS NOW, through the Stateline Area Crime Stoppers “P3 Tips” mobile phone app, or online at: www.statelineareacrimestoppers.com.  Tipsters to Stateline Area Crime Stoppers always remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward up to $1000.  Stateline Area Crime Stoppers is the official Crime Stoppers organization of the City of Freeport and Stephenson County.
