COUNTERFEIT BILLS PASSED IN EAST MOLINE - 2019-002967
June 27, 2019

On June 21st, within five minutes, the suspect passed counterfeit bills in two East Moline stores.  He first went into Walgreens, 657 Avenue of the Cities and spent 4 fake $100 bills to load a Visa NetSpend card.  He then went to Dollar General, 657 Avenue of the Cities and did the same thing.  The fake bills were genuine $10 bills that were altered to look like $100 bills.  Because the bills are genuine $10 bills, the counterfeit pen detector showed they were real and the clerks were unaware they have been altered.  The only way to detect these fake bills is to hold them up to a light and look at the security thread which indicates the bill is a 10.   The suspect is described as male, black, wearing light colored jeans, an orange construction vest with writing on the back and an orange hat.  If you recognize him, call the tip line 309-762-9500 or submit your tip using the app P3 Tips.  All tips are secure and anonymous and you could earn a cash reward.
